Snow fell atop Mauna Kea this morning, but two hours later it had melted.

Mauna Kea, the Big Island's 13,796-foot dormant volcano, often gets snow, National Weather Service forecaster Eric Lau said.

Today's dusting was ahead of the typical wintry weather on Mauna Kea, which usually begins around Thanksgiving or early December. About 1 inch of snow fell today.
