Free 'goodness' at Sacred Hearts

Sacred Hearts Academy is offering two free "goodness" programs with Usha Balamore at the school, 3253 Wai'alae Ave.
Balamore is the director of character education at the Shipley School in Bryn Mawr, Pa., and co-author of "Teaching Goodness: Engaging the Moral and Academic Promise of Children."
The free programs are:
• "Teachers — How to be your best and how to bring out the best in every student," 2:45 p.m. Tuesday.
• "Parents — Bringing out the Best in Your Child," 6 p.m. Wednesday.

PASTOR TO SPEAK ON 'JOYFUL GRIEF'
The Rev. Dan Hatch will discuss "Joyful Grief" at the Interfaith Open Table at 7 a.m. Wednesday at First Unitarian Church.
Hatch, a United Church of Christ minister, resigned as senior pastor of Manoa Valley Church in late 2004 to help his wife, who later died of breast cancer. He returned to the ministry as interim senior minister of Community Church of Honolulu.
The Interfaith Open Table meets the first Wednesday of the month at First Unitarian, 2500 Pali Highway.

INTERFAITH PEACE GATHERING SET
The Hawai'i Conference of Religions for Peace's annual interfaith gathering, Prayers for Peace, will be at 4 p.m. tomorrow at the Gedatsu Church, 6095 Summer St.
Co-sponsored by The Interfaith Alliance Hawai'i, 17 faiths will offer prayers. Harriet Natsuyama will discuss "The Physics of Peace" in the keynote, and on display will be the Gedatsu Church's "Cup-full of Peace Project" of personalized messages of peace on 100 ceramic cups. Anita Hall will entertain at the free event, which will end with a reception. Attendees can bring nonperishable food items for donations.
