Superferry helps support environmental education
Hawaii Superferry is providing free fares to low-income O'ahu students participating in overnight environmental education programs at the Hawai'i Nature Center in 'Iao Valley.
The Nature Center developed the Ahupua'a Camp program through support from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the state Department of Health's Safe Drinking Water Branch, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Atherton Family Foundation.
Students will have the opportunity to learn how drinking water is formed in aquifers and how to protect the water source.
Hawaii Nature Center Executive Director Gregory Dunn said his group approached the ferry company because schools are unable pay for the students' travel.
