ACT will stage Disney's 'High School Musical'

Advertiser Staff

While "High School Musical 3" currently is rocking at your neighborhood cinema, the Army Community Theatre is prepping to bring the music and good cheer of the original Wildcats musical to the stage in the first Honolulu community theater production.

"High School Musical," the Disney phenom that has become a franchise and star-launching vehicle, will be the first non-school O'ahu endeavor when ACT stages it Nov. 26 through Dec. 6 at Richardson Theatre at Fort Shafter. Disney earlier provided rights to high school actors here and abroad.

Heading the ACT cast will be Troy McCraw of Halawa View as Troy, the hoopster star; Jana Souza of Kapolei as Gabriella, the braniac; Colby Benson of Mililani as Sharpay, the diva, and Vincent Fitzgerald of Hilo as Ryan, her brother.

Other performers include Madison Eror of Kailua as Taylor, Gabriella's new friend; Jason Loo of Hawai'i Kai as Chad, Troy's best friend; Jerrick Julio of 'Ewa Beach as Jack Scott, East High's Velvet Fog; Lily Brennick as Mrs. Darbus, the drama teacher; David L. Vega of 'Ewa Beach as the principal; and Richard Bragdon of 'Aiea Heights as Coach Bolton, Troy's father and booster.

CoCo Weil will direct, assisted by Rebecca Ramos. Grace Bell Humerickhouse and Philip Amer Kelley are choreographers and Peter Rucci is musical director.

Tickets: $20 and $15 for adults, $15 and $12 for children, on sale at the Richardson Theatre box office.

Charge by phone: 438-4480.
