Punahou running back Dalton Hilliard and Buffanblu wide receiver Robert Toma have given verbal commitments to play football at UCLA, said Doris Sullivan, director of the Pacific Islands Athletic Alliance.
Hilliard, who is 6 feet and 190 pounds, gave his commitment Monday. Toma, who is 5 feet 10 and 170 pounds, pledged on Tuesday.
"It just seemed like a good fit for me," Hilliard said. "They're on the way up. UCLA definitely will be in the Pac-10 and the national championship races in the coming years. I'm just excited to be a part of the Bruin family now."
Hilliard also received offers from Arizona, Nebraska and Notre Dame. He visited the UCLA campus two weekends ago and was on the sideline during the 23-20 win over Stanford.
Hilliard, who intends to major in architecture, has rushed for 340 yards and seven touchdowns on 73 carries. He also has 37 receptions for 460 yards with six TDs.
Hilliard has also seen spot duty at defensive back for the Buffanblu (8-1), ranked first in The Advertiser's top 10 poll.
Hilliard is a nominee for the U.S. Army All-American Game in January. A military dependent, he has lived in Virginia, North Carolina and New York. He is the fifth-ranked recruit in the state by Rivals.com.
Hilliard earned first-team Interscholastic League of Honolulu honors and honorable mention All-State last season.
At last summer's PIAA combine, Hilliard ran a 4.5-second 40-yard dash and did a max-lift of 225 pounds on the bench press. He posted a vertical jump of 37 inches.
Toma, who will visit the UCLA campus in two weeks, said Hilliard's commitment eased his decision.
"Manti (Te'o) and Dalton went on their trips (to UCLA) already and they really enjoyed themselves," Toma said. "Going to college, I always wanted to play with somebody I knew and played with."
Toma, who also drew interest from Army and Utah, said he does not intend to take any other visits.
Toma has caught 55 passes this season for 809 yards and 13 touchdowns. As a junior he was honorable mention All-State.
At the PIAA combine, Toma ran his 40-yard dash in 4.56 seconds and completed the pro-agility drill in 4.22 seconds. His vertical jump is listed at 34 inches.
Both were on last year's division I state champion Buffanblu basketball team. Toma said he intends to play this year while Hilliard has yet to decide.
Hilliard and Toma join Kapolei offensive lineman Stan Hasiak IV, who also committed to UCLA earlier in the week.
The first day that high school seniors can sign national letters of intent is Feb. 4.
