The Cardinals and the agent for Kurt Warner have started talking again about a contract extension.

Chicago-based Mark Bartelstein said he and general manager Rod Graves spoke about Warner on Wednesday.

Graves said he expects he'll be talking about a two-year deal; that's how much longer Warner has indicated he'd like to play.

"He's playing great," Graves said. "He's having an outstanding year."

They had been talking in the summer, and Warner had said he wanted a deal wrapped up by the start of the season.

But they never came to terms.

Now, once again, "There's interest on both sides," Bartelstein said.

"We'll see what happens."

Bartelstein thinks the talks won't take away from Warner's season.

"The focus is 100 percent on winning games. Kurt is single-minded."

Warner is having a "wonderful time" in Arizona and "loves playing for the coaching staff," Bartelstein said.

INJURY UPDATE

Tight end Leonard Pope, who has a lingering ankle problem, did not practice Wednesday. He may be out until at least next week.

But tight end Ben Patrick had a limited practice, so he could be ready to go Sunday at St. Louis.

The Cardinals had neither tight end available at Carolina, a situation that helped tilt their plan toward even more passing than usual.

Defensive end Travis LaBoy (groin) also had a limited practice.

For the Rams, running back Steven Jackson, who missed Sunday with a thigh injury, had a limited practice. Coach Jim Haslett indicated he'd likely be listed as questionable vs. the Cardinals.
