NFL Bottom 10: Bungles halfway home to Bottom 10 Greatness

By Steve Harvey
Special to the Los Angeles Times

It was a stunning set of events. First, San Diego (once considered a Super Bowl contender by some) tumbled to 3-5 after a 32-37 loss to New Orleans. Then, Saints back Deuce McAllister carried off all 52 of his teammates on his back.

Where does he get that strength?

Elsewhere, the Cincinnati Bungles (0-8) reached the halfway point in their drive to record the first 0-16 season in NFL history. And Detroit (0-7) lost a home game to Washington that was blacked out in the Motor City for the good of the community.

While the Bungles and Lions vie for the Bottom Ten title (U.S.), Hamilton (3-14) and Toronto (4-12) are duking it out for the Canadian Football League BT title. Negotiations are reportedly underway for the chumps of each league to meet for the North American championship in a suitable location — perhaps in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

Wreck/Record/Last Loss/Next Week

1. Cincinnati/0-8/6-35, Houston/Jacksonville

2. Detroit/0-7/17-25, Washington/Chicago

3. Oakland/2-5/10-29, Baltimore/Atlanta

4. San Diego/3-5/32-37, New Orleans/Hiding

5. San Francisco/2-6/13-34, Seattle/Healing

6. Kansas City (1-6); 7. Jacksonville (3-4); 8. Minnehaha (3-4); 9. (tie) AFC West (10-19) and NFC West (10-19).

Crummy game of the week: Cincinnati (0-8) vs. Jacksonville (3-4).

Fantasy flops: Dallas wide receiver Terrell Owens, five catches for 33 yards and no touchdowns (third week in a row on the FF team!).
