Honolulu police said a moped heading south on Ward Avenue ran the red light at Beretania Street and was struck by a four-door sedan traveling through the intersection.
Traffic investigators said the moped was being driven by one man and carrying another as a passenger when the collision occurred at about 4:50 this morning.
Police said both moped riders were thrown and neither was wearing a helmet. The driver of the sedan was not injured.
Investigators said the road conditions were clear and dry with light traffic and it was unknown this morning if speed, drugs or alcohol were a factor.
No identifications were available by mid-morning. But Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Medical Services Department said initial reports indicated one of those injured was a teen and the other in his 20s.
Honolulu police said the intersection was cleared and reopened at 7:30 although investigation is continuing.
No update was available this morning on the condition of the two injured, police said.
