Hawaii delegates unanimously back McCain

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Hawai'i's delegates to the Republican National Convention, led by Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona, cast their 20 votes tonight for U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona for the party's nominee for president.

Aiona told the convention: "Madame secretary, aloha kako. I'm Lieutenant Governor Duke Aiona.

"Hawai'i, the home state of the world's greatest athlete, Olympian decathlon champion Brian Clay and 22 other Olympians. Hawai'i, the home of the Waipi'o Little League world champions, proudly casts its 20 votes for the next president of the United States, Senator John McCain, and the next vice president of the United States, Governor Sarah Palin."
