A 40-year-old Nu'uanu man was charged yesterday with allegedly punching his wife into unconsciousness.

Andre J. Saldania of a Huake Place address turned himself in at the Kalihi police station yesterday at 1:50 a.m. Prosecutors later charged him with first-degree assault.

Saldania's bail is $35,000 pending his initial appearance today at District Court.

The woman victim, 43, suffered an orbital fracture during the domestic incident reported to police at 12:35 a.m. yesterday. Saldania fled before police arrived.

The suspect has 15 prior convictions, according to Hawai'i Criminal Justice Data Center records.
