TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE

Republican convention, 4 p.m. ABC, CBS, NBC; 2 and 5:30 p.m. on PBS and various times on cable news channels. Now the battle begins. John McCain gives his acceptance speech. Then the presidential race has its two-month sprint. Other channels start earlier, with CNN at noon and C-SPAN at 1 p.m. and MSNBC at 8. The big speech, however, waits for the big guys at 4.

Football, 1 p.m., NBC. The pro season starts and NBC has both Mannings. Tonight is Eli and the Super Bowl champion New York Giants; they host the Washington Redskins. On Sunday, his brother Peyton and the former champion Indianapolis Colts host the Chicago Bears.

"Blade Runner" (1982), 7-10:30 p.m., ION. Here is a great film, with Harrison Ford as a future private eye. Director Ridley Scott offers dazzling visuals and a superb supporting cast. There are great moments for Daryl Hannah, Sean Young, William Sanderson and a scary Rutger Hauer.

OF NOTE

"Kitchen Nightmares," 8-9:30 p.m., Fox. Next week, Gordon Ramsay starts a new season of transforming troubled restaurants. First he revisits six spots that he worked on last season. All are in New York State. Earlier problems ranged from bugs to a foul temper, from too-big portions to a too-big menu.

"90210," 7-9 p.m., CW. If you missed this show's debut Tuesday, here's a rerun. A Kansas family enters the world of Beverly Hills wealth.

"Ugly Betty," 7 p.m., ABC. Hilda confronts the gym coach who gave her son a bad grade; since he's a handsome guy (Eddie Cibrian), her rage soon fades. Meanwhile, Betty hosts a big baby shower for Charlie.

"Grey's Anatomy," 8 p.m., ABC. Way too much fuss has been stirred by Dr. Mark Sloan's trysts. Now a "date-and-tell" policy is launched.

"CSI: Crime Scene Investigation," 8 p.m., CBS. A sex-offender seems to have a solid alibi when a 3-year-old girl has been killed. Catherine makes the case a personal mission.
