Hawaiian Isles Tennis, or HIT, has been created and introduced by local tennis pro Leilani Magee. www.HITennis.net is described as a "tennis-focused social networking, reporting and community" Web site. The site's motto is "Advancing Community Through Tennis."
Magee has been building the tennis community networking and information center since June. She created it to serve tennis communities across Hawai'i. Magee describes it as "integrating social networking technology and capabilities to foster awareness, sharing of opinions and advancement of players, organizations and businesses."
HITennis.net is similar to www.Tennisopolis.com, a national social network where "fans and players share their love of tennis."
The HIT site has sponsored community service events across the state the past few months, including training sessions for juniors on Kaua'i and in Hilo, Wailuku, Lahaina and Napili. It also provides free photo services and feature articles, photo galleries, video and forums on relevant topics.
Tennis players can join HIT and post material and interact. Every member gets a personal "My Page" where they can announce events, post information and photos, and communicate with other members. The site requires "non-anonymous membership" to provide a "family and minor-friendly online experience." It also provides a moderator.
HIT plans to set up groups to help players find partners and teams in the future.
Magee swept the women's titles at this year's revived Hawai'i Grand Prix Circuit, while she was creating her new business.
"I invite the tennis players and tennis communities of Hawai'i to join, find and create their place and personalized tennis experience online with HIT," Magee said.
