Garcia wins eskrima title

A group of Hawai'i eskrimadors recently took part in the 10th World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation Championships in Cebu, Philippines.
The event, held every two years, had more than 700 competitors from nearly 30 countries.
Robert Garcia, the chief instructor of Bandalan Doce Pares Association's Hawai'i branch, won his fourth world title in the single-stick lightweight masters division.
Bandalan Doce Pares student Jdelo Dadulas of Honolulu, won the single-stick midweight division. Maui's Donovan Raboy placed third in the same division.
Scott Slazek, formerly of Kona, fought on the Philippine team, and won middleweight titles in both the forms and single-stick divisions.
Following that competition, the Second Doce Pares World Championships took place.

Joseph Guzman, O'ahu, second place, single stick, masters super heavyweight.
Brian Anganos, Maui, second place, single-stick fighting, heavyweight.
Kaipo Garcia, Hawai'i, second place, Baraw knife fighting, cruiserweight.
Owen Sarsona, Hawai'i, second place Baraw knife fighting and third place single stick, super middle heavyweight.
Mike Heinicke, Hawai'i, third place, single stick, light heavyweight.
James Robles, Hawai'i, third place, single stick, masters super heavyweight.
