Maui's Desiree Ting shot a 2-over-par 74 today and was tied for sixth after the first round of stroke play at the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Championship in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Ting, of Wailuku, was four strokes behind leader Kathy Hartwiger of Birmingham, Ala.

The low 64 scores after tomorrow's second round advance to match play in the USGA tournament for amateurs 25 and older.
