Senior slotback Aaron Bain has been waiting three years for his shot.

Last night in Hawai'i's 36-17 win over Weber State, he scored twice in his home debut as a starter.

"Every game is important to me, but starting for the first time, in front of the home crowd, that was really big for me," Bain said. "I was kind of nervous in the beginning, but once you get the first couple of series out of the way, everything is all good.

"Now that we got all of the jitters out of the way, hopefully we can have a good season."

Bain scored on 8-yard and 1-yard touchdown passes, both from Tyler Graunke.

The former walk-on from Saint Louis School was a backup the past three years, earning a scholarship at the start of this season. Bain finished with four catches for 35 yards.

His fellow receivers also had personal-best nights.

"I think the ball was spread out really great," Bain said. "Everybody got a touch on the ball."

Sophomore wideout Greg Salas, who caught three passes all of last season, caught three for a career-high 68 yards, including a long of 41.

Senior slotback Michael Washington caught five passes for a career-high 109 yards.

Junior wideout Malcolm Lane caught three passes for 59 yards, and scored a touchdown.

"I think we got the ball rolling late, but we did a good job in the second half," Bain said. "There was a lot of intensity in the locker room, trying to get everybody fired up. Once we got the fire in our eyes back, then the ball started rolling."

ROBINSON'S FIRST

UH safety Erik Robinson recorded his first career sack in the second quarter, taking down Weber State quarterback Cameron Higgins for a loss of 8 yards.

"It was a blitz," Robinson said. "I saw the opening and I took it and I just shot and made the tackle."

Robinson had surgery on his shoulder and sat out the entire spring camp.

"It was cool to be out there playing with the ball, moving around and having fun," he said.

KELLY IN SECOND

Senior kicker Dan Kelly took sole possession of second on the school's career points list with his extra-point kick in the first quarter.

Kelly scored four points, all on PATS, to boost his career total to 272. Kelly was previously tied with Justin Ayat at 268.

Jason Elam, now with the Atlanta Falcons, is first with 395 points (79 field goals, 158 PATs).

LAELI'S DOUBTFUL

Senior defensive tackle Fale Laeli went down after a play near the Hawai'i goal-line in the second quarter. He was carted off the field in a wheelchair.

Laeli's return to the game was reported to be "doubtful" in the third quarter.

QUICK HITS
