COPENHAGEN, Denmark — Danish mountain bike rider Peter Riis Andersen, who was barred from the Beijing Olympics for blood doping, got a two-year suspension on Wednesday.
Riis Andersen was suspended for using the blood-boosting drug EPO, the doping tribunal of the Sports Confederation of Denmark said.
Riis Andersen said during a news conference on July 29 that he had tested positive during a pre-Olympic test in June. He was immediately removed from the Danish team for the Beijing Games. The 28-year-old cyclist, who also is a medical student, quit professional cycling.
Riis Andersen won the Danish championships on July 20. He competed at the 2004 Athens Olympics, finishing 18th.
The suspension is retroactive to July 22.
