Hawaii Red Cross sends more volunteers to Hurricane Ike relief

Advertiser Staff

Six more Hawai'i Red Cross volunteers are on the way to join relief operations in Texas responding to Hurricane Ike. They will join 17 Hawai'i volunteers already working in Louisiana and Texas.

More Hawai'i volunteers are on alert and ready to deploy if necessary, the Red Cross said.

The Hawai'i personnel joining the relief effort are part of a national network of Red Cross disaster volunteers who are trained to deploy to large relief operations for up to three-week assignments.

Community members interested in becoming local or national disaster volunteers should contact their nearest Red Cross office. All Red Cross disaster training is open to the public and offered at no cost.

To make a donation, go online to www.redcross.org or call 1-800-REDCROSS.
