Little Leaguers in Waipi'o meet fans

The Waipi'o Little League World Series championship team will be honored by McDonald's Restaurants of Hawaii at the McDonald's of Waipi'o store from 4 to 6 p.m. today.
Team members and coaches will be given $100 Arch Cards. The public is invited for an autograph-signing session. McDonald's of Waipi'o is distributing free mini-posters to customers on a first-come, first-served basis.
Ten percent of the sales from the event will be donated to the team to help defray costs.
The McDonald's is at 94-1015 Ka Uka Blvd.
SHARK ALERTS END AT CHUN'S REEF
Shark-warning signs were removed yesterday morning from the shore fronting the Chun's Reef surfing area near Hale'iwa on O'ahu's North Shore, said Bryan Cheplic, spokesman for the city Emergency Services Department.
Cheplic said the signs were posted Thursday afternoon after a city lifeguard on routine patrol spotted a 10- to 12-foot shark in the Chun's Reef Laniakea area.
Approximately six people who were taking surf lessons were instructed to get out of the water, Cheplic said.
Surfers and others who plan to enter the water are still advised to check with area lifeguards.
AUSTRALIAN HIKER REMAINS MISSING
An Australian man who went missing on a hiking trail in upper Pearl Ridge remains lost after eight days.
The Hawaiian Trail and Mountain Club, which has taken up the search for 77-year-old Jon Parsons, said they will continue the search until tomorrow unless he is found sooner.
The club's Mabel Kekina said several hikers, pig hunters, dogs from the Urban Search & Rescue and Army personnel showed up to search yesterday.
MAN ACCUSED IN CHILD SEX ASSAULT
Police on Thursday arrested a 68-year-old Aliamanu man on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl.
The man was arrested at his Likini Street residence at 8:25 a.m. and booked on two counts each of first- and third-degree sex assault.
The alleged sex assaults occurred between June 22 and July 16.
Child Welfare Service notified police of the case on Aug. 19. Forensic interview with the victim confirmed multiple offenses, police said.
