Weather: Trades are back, but not for long

The trade winds will strengthen today as a high pressure area builds to the north of the state, the National Weather Service said.

Clouds and light showers carried by the winds will affect mainly windward and mauka areas.

Winds will weaken during the second half of the week as the high pressure area weakens, forecasters said.

Here's a closer look at the next few days:

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 86. East wind between 14 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.

Tonight: Isolated showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 73. East wind around 16 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Wednesday: Sunny, with a high near 86. East wind around 17 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 71. East wind between 13 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Thursday: Isolated showers after noon. Partly cloudy, with a high near 86. East wind around 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Thursday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 71. East wind around 11 mph.

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 86. East wind between 14 and 17 mph, with gusts as high as 22 mph.
