HIFF set for Oct. 9-19; ticket sales start Friday

Pre-sale tickets for the 28th annual Louis Vuitton Hawaii International Film Festival , scheduled from Oct. 9 through 19 at the Regal Dole Cannery Stadium 18, will go on sale tomorrow at HIFF box office at the theater and by phone and online. Public sales will begin Sept. 26.

A total of 150 films, from 36 countries, will be showcased in the annual filmfest.

Features from Australia, Canada, Chile, China, Denmark, France, Germany, Guam, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Marshall Islands, Mongolia, New Zealand, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Syria, Taiwan, Thailand, United Kingdom and the United States are on the agenda.

Among the titles to be exhibited:

• "The Good, the Bad, the Weird," a Korean-style western directed by Kim Jee-Woon and starring mega-Korean star Jung Woo-Sung who will be attending the festival this year.

• "Rain of the Children," a docu-drama by New Zealand's Vincent Ward, will be a centerpiece film.

A HIFF trailer by award-winning local filmmaker Gerard Elmore, with stellar talent such as Jason Scott Lee and Kelly Hu who have had success in Hollywood films, will be previewed at HIFF's launch event Sept. 29 at the Dole Cannery. The trailer boasts the musical talents of maestro Matt Catingub of the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra and vocalist Paula Fuga, who have re-imagined the Depeche Mode hit, "Dreaming of Me."
