NFL: The Bottom 10

By Steve Harvey
Special to the Los Angeles Times

Inasmuch as it now seems obvious that the Super Bowl will pit undefeated Buffalo against undefeated Arizona, perhaps it's not so surprising that San Diego and Jacksonville would be winless after the first two weeks of the season. It looks as though it's going to be a strange season.

The Chargers took over No. 1 after a 38-39 loss to Denver. (The Bottom Ten's antiquated computer does not take into account the scores of games or the strength of opponents, only won-lost records and uniform designs.)

Also in trouble are the Cincinnati Bungles, whose star receiver, Chad O. Cinco, has caught only five passes in two games. That's partly the fault of quarterback Carson Palmer, whose 37.1 passer rating has led to speculation that he will be replaced by one of his backups — Jordan Palmer, his little brother, or by some other member of his family.

Wreck/Record/Last Loss/Next Loss

1. San Diego/0-2/38-39, Denver/N.J. Jets

2. Cincinnati/0-2/7-24, Tennessee/N.J. Giants

3. St. Louis/0-2/13-41, N.J. Giants/Seattle

4. Miasma/0-2/10-31, Arizona/New England

5. Jacksonville/0-2/16-20, Buffalo/Indianapolis

6. Seattle (0-2);

7. Minnehaha (0-2);

8. Cleveland (0-2);

9. Kansas City (0-2);

10. Indianapolis (1-1).

Crummy game of the week: West regional: St. Louis (0-2) at Seattle (0-2); South regional: Kansas City (0-2) at Atlantis (1-1).

Call of the day: Indianapolis radio broadcaster Bob Lamey, on an unsuccessful 30-yard field-goal attempt by the Colts' Adam Vinatieri: "The kick is on its way. It's good! It's good! It's good! ... No, wait a minute. It's no good. No good."
