Walk-in early voting on O'ahu for the primary election is down this year, compared with the last two primary elections.

The Honolulu city clerk's office said Friday that 13,014 people voted early at five polling places around O'ahu in advance of Saturday's election. That's down from 17,105 in 2006 and 17,398 in 2004.

The primary two years ago featured Sen. Daniel Akaka successfully fending off Democratic challenger Ed Case.

Four years ago, Honolulu's hotly contested mayor's race featuring Mufi Hannemann and Duke Bainum drew voters to the polls.

Saturday, polling places will be open at 7 a.m. and close at 6 p.m.
