Soccer: U.S. women beats Ireland, sweeps series

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. _ Lori Chalupny and Kate Markgraf scored goals to help the Olympic champion U.S. women's soccer team beat Ireland 2-0 today, the Americans' third straight shutout victory in the three-game series.
Chalupny opened the scoring in the 19th minute. Lindsay Tarpley found Chalpny in the box. She settled the ball and blasted it into the net.
In the 31st minute, Natasha Kai was taken down in the box for a penalty kick. Markgraf took the kick and sent a clean shot into the lower left corner for a 2-0 lead. Markgraf's goal marked the first of her career in her 193rd appearance.
