NFL: Week 2's top performances

Sunday's top performances in the NFL:

Passing

—Drew Brees, Saints, completed 39 of 48 passes for 421 yards and a TD in New Orleans' 34-32 loss to Denver.

—Brian Griese, Buccaneers, was 38-for-67 for 407 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions in Tampa Bay's 27-24 win over Chicago.

—Eli Manning, Giants, was 26-of-43 for 289 yards in New York's 26-23 win over Cincinnati.

—Chad Pennington, Dolphins, was 17-for-20 for 226 yards in Miami's 38-13 win over New England.

—Gus Frerotte, Vikings, completed 16 of 28 passes for 204 yards and a touchdown in Minnesota's 20-10 win over Carolina.

Rushing

—Ronnie Brown, Dolphins, ran for a team-record four TDs and 113 yards and threw for another score in Miami's 38-13 win over New England.

—Michael Turner, Falcons, rushed for 104 yards and three touchdowns in Atlanta's 38-14 win over Kansas City. Larry Johnson, Chiefs, had 24 carries for 121 yards and a touchdown.

—Frank Gore, 49ers, rushed for 130 yards and a touchdown in San Francisco's 31-13 win over Detroit.

—Julius Jones, Seahawks, ran for 140 yards on 22 carries in Seattle's 37-13 win over St. Louis.

—Matt Forte, Bears, ran for 89 yards and added 66 yards and a TD receiving in Chicago's 27-24 overtime loss to Tampa Bay.

—Steve Slaton, Texans, rushed for 117 yards, including his first NFL touchdown, in Houston's 31-12 loss to Tennessee.

—Fred Taylor, Jaguars, ran 26 times for 121 yards in Jacksonville's 23-21 win over Indianapolis. Teammate Maurice Jones-Drew ran 19 times for 107 yards and a TD.

Receiving

—Brandon Marshall, Broncos, had six receptions for 155 yards in Denver's 34-32 win over New Orleans. Reggie Bush, Saints, caught 11 passes for 75 yards and a touchdown and rushed 18 times for 73 yards and a TD.

—T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Bengals, had 12 catches for 146 yards and a touchdown in Cincinnati's 26-23 loss to the Giants.

—Larry Fitzgerald, Cardinals, caught seven passes for 109 yards and a touchdown in Arizona's 24-17 loss to Washington.

—Antonio Bryant, Buccaneers, caught 10 passes for 138 yards in Tampa Bay's 27-24 win over Chicago. Brandon Lloyd, Bears, had six catches for 124 yards and a TD.

Special Teams

—Josh Scobee, Jaguars, kicked a winning 53-yard field goal in Jacksonville's 23-21 victory over Indianapolis.

—John Carney, Giants, kicked four field goals, including the winner in OT, in New York's 26-23 victory over Cincinnati.

—Sav Rocca, Eagles, had a 54-yard punt to pin the Steelers at their 6 in Philadelphia's 15-6 win over Pittsburgh. Jeff Reed, Steelers, kicked a career-best 53-yard field goal.

Defense

—Cortland Finnegan, Titans, returned an interception a franchise-record 99 yards for a TD in Tennessee's 31-12 win over Houston. Teammate Michael Griffin had two interceptions.

—Gaines Adams, Buccaneers, returned a pick 45 yards for a TD in Tampa Bay's 27-24 win over Chicago.

—Fred Robbins, Giants, had two sacks for the second straight week in New York's 26-23 win over Cincinnati.

—Antoine Winfield, Vikings, had a sack and 19-yard fumble return for a touchdown in Minnesota's 20-10 win over Carolina.

—Ed Reed, Ravens, returned an interception 32 yards for a touchdown in Baltimore's 28-10 win over Cleveland.

RECORDS AND MILESTONES

Tennessee's Kerry Collins became the 15th NFL quarterback with at least 35,000 yards passing in his career in the Titans' 31-12 win over Houston. ... The Dolphins won for just the second time in 22 games, beating the Patriots 38-13 to earn coach Tony Sparano his first victory. The 25-point loss was New England's biggest in seven seasons at Gillette Stadium. Ellis Hobbs set a Patriots record with 237 yards on six kickoff returns. ... With the Bills in first place in the AFC East, this marks the first time a team other than New England is on top of the division since Week 4 of 2005, when Miami was 2-1 and the Patriots were 2-2. ... Donovan McNabb moved ahead of Ron Jaworksi for first on the Eagles' all-time list with 176 TD passes in Philadelphia's 15-6 win over Pittsburgh. ... Tampa Bay's Brian Griese set a franchise record with 67 passes in a 27-24 win over Chicago.

STREAKS

The Patriots' NFL record 21 straight regular-season wins ended with a 38-13 loss to Miami. ... The Chiefs have dropped 12 straight after falling to the Falcons 38-14. ... The Cardinals committed their first turnovers of the season and ended a 10-game streak in which they scored 20 or more points in a 24-17 loss to Washington. The Redskins' Jason Campbell completed his first eight passes, giving him 16 straight over two games. Teammate Santana Moss has a TD catch in six straight games (including last year's playoff game), tying Bobby Mitchell's franchise record set in 1964. ... The Titans have beaten the team that replaced them in Houston seven straight times and in 11 of 13 games after defeating the Texans 31-12. The Titans have won six straight regular season games going back to last season.

STATS

Washington's Jason Campbell has yet to throw an interception this season after beating Arizona 24-17. The Cardinals are 2-15 in the Eastern time zone since 2003. ... The Texans scored only 12 points despite getting inside the Tennessee 14 six times in a 31-12 loss to the Titans. ... Buffalo's Trent Edwards has rallied the Bills to victory when trailing or tied in the fourth quarter four times in 12 career starts. ... The Rams have been outscored 116-29 this season after losing to Seattle 37-13.

STARTS

Buffalo is off to a 3-0 start for the first time since 1992 after beating Oakland 24-23. ... The Giants (3-0) are off to their best start since 2000 after beating the Bengals 26-23. The Bengals are 0-3 for the first time since 2003, coach Marvin Lewis' first season. ... The Titans improved to 3-0 for just the third time in franchise history after beating the Texans 31-12. ... Detroit is 0-3 for the fourth time in eight years after losing to the 49ers 31-13.

SACKS

Miami's Joey Porter had two sacks in the Dolphins' 38-13 win over New England. ... The Giants sacked Cincinnati's Carson Palmer six times in their 26-23 win. ... The Eagles' defense had nine sacks, including 2˝ by Juqua Parker, in their 15-6 win over Pittsburgh.

SIDELINED

Eagles RB Brian Westbrook hurt his right ankle in Philadelphia's 15-6 win over Pittsburgh. Coach Andy Reid said X-rays showed the ankle wasn't broken, but Westbrook will have an MRI on Monday. Westbrook was on crutches. ... Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger hurt his throwing hand when he was sacked by Brian Dawkins. Coach Mike Tomlin said X-rays on Roethlisberger's hand were negative and he's expected to play next week.

SPEAKING
