University of Hawai'i freshman outside hitter Kanani Herring, who earned her first Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week honor this morning, injured her ankle in a morning practice and is in a walking boot and on crutches.
"She just tweaked her ankle in practice this morning and her status is unknown at this point," Hawai'i coach Dave Shoji said. "She will be making the trip and she'll probably practice tomorrow."
Earlier, Herring received the WAC honor after leading UH to a sweep of Idaho and Boise State last Friday and Saturday.
She averaged 4.57 kills, 4.57 digs and 0.57 blocks per set while hitting .367 to help the Rainbow Wahine improve to 9-2. She had 22 kills and 17 digs while hitting .409 against Idaho. She then added another double-double with 10 kills and 15 digs against Boise State.
"She had another good weekend, so I think she's deserving of the Player of the Week," Shoji said.
Also today, the Rainbow Wahine remained at seventh in the American Volleyball Coaches Association poll. Penn State (12-0) remained at No. 1 and received all 60 first-place votes.
The Rainbow Wahine go on the road for the first time this season, playing at Louisiana Tech Thursday, at New Mexico State Saturday and at San Jose State Monday.
