COMPTON, Calif. — A former high school football star and Southern California recruit has been sentenced to four years in prison for robbing a man at gunpoint.

The player, Maurice Leon Simmons, 18, and another man, Lamont Lee Hall, 20, were sentenced Wednesday for the March 5 holdup in Compton.

Superior Court Judge Arthur Lew sentenced Hall to 12 years in prison.

Simmons, a former linebacker for Dominguez High School in Compton, and Hall were both convicted of second-degree robbery and assault with a firearm. Simmons also was convicted of a misdemeanor, permitting a loaded firearm in a vehicle. Hall was convicted of possession of a firearm by a felon.
