Hawaii plays Portland State to 1-1 tie in women's soccer

Mari Punzal scored on a give-and-go with Ambree Ako at 16:32 as the University of Hawai'i women's soccer team played host Portland State to a 1-1 tie yesterday.
Portland State's Kala Renard scored at 44:33 off assists from Esty Geiger and Cris Lewis.
Hawai'i's Kori Lu had three saves in the 110-minute match (90 regulation, 20 overtime).
Hawai'i moved to 3-3-3; Portland State is 1-8-2.
The Rainbows next play No. 21 Washington tomorrow at 9 a.m. (Hawai'i time). They will conclude their road trip Sept. 30 at Cal State Fullerton.
HAWAI'I-HILO WOMEN BEAT MESA STATE, 3-1
Megan Pachecano, Alyssa Salvador and Adele Letro scored goals as the Hawai'i-Hilo women's soccer team beat Mesa State (Colo.), 3-1, yesterday at Kea'au High School.
Kara Hazen assisted on Pachecano's goal (2:15) and Letro's goal (47:45) for Hilo (4-3). Kelly White had an assist on Salvador's goal (32:13).
Deborah Benson scored at 55:53 for Mesa State (5-3).
The Vulcans' Shanna Brown had nine saves.

BYU-HAWAI'I SWEEPS HAWAI'I PACIFIC
Agnes Tuilevuka had 15 kills and Losaline Faka'osi added 12 kills and 11 digs as Brigham Young-Hawai'i swept Hawai'i Pacific, 25-19, 25-18, 25-12, in a Pacific West Conference match last night at the Cannon Activities Center.
LeeAnn Mapu had 41 assists and Melanie Manutai had 26 digs for BYU-Hawai'i (6-5, 3-0).
Julia Gruszecka and Natasha Bell each had six kills for HPU (2-10, 0-3).
HILO SWEEPS NOTRE DAME DE NAMUR
Josimara Pinheiro had 18 kills and 11 digs, and Mary Claire Bolo added 10 kills as host Hawai'i-Hilo beat Notre Dame de Namur, 25-23, 25-15, 25-16, last night in a Pacific West Conference match.
Amber Murphy and Fabiane Seben both had three aces for Hilo (9-2, 2-1).
Christin Villamayor had six kills to lead Notre Dame de Namur (1-10, 0-3).
SAILING
HAWAI'I SAILORS PLACE THIRD, FOURTH IN OPENER
University of Hawai'i sailors Shandy Buckley and Hannah Tuson-Turner opened the season by placing third and fourth, respectively, at the PCCSC Women's Singlehanded Championships off San Diego.
Both fell just short of qualifying for the nationals.
Twelve sailors from seven schools participated in the regatta hosted by UC San Diego and UC Irvine at the Mission Bay Yacht Club.
Stanford's Taylor Grimes (35 point) and Carolyn Prioleau (46 point) placed 1-2 in the 12-race regatta. Buckley had 52 and Tuson-Turner finished with 56.
The Rainbow Wahine next participate in the Bryson Women's Intersectional, hosted by Stanford, Oct. 4 to 5.
