Waianae man who died after arrest had internal injury

Big Island relatives of Henry L. Mara of Wai'anae, who passed away Sept. 19 after being arrested by Honolulu police, claim family on O'ahu were told by medical examiner's he had a ruptured spleen.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner's office performed an autopsy on Mara Sept. 22 but deferred on listing cause and manner of death pending test results.
Honolulu CrimeStoppers issued a bulletin on Friday seeking information from anyone who may have seen Mara on Sept. 19 between 7 a.m. and noon in Kapolei. Mara had been seen between 5:30 and 7 a.m. in Ma'ili and may have caught a bus to Kapolei.
Mara, 47, was arrested Sept. 19 for criminal trespass at Kapolei Shopping Center. He was at the Kapolei police station when he complained of illness and was taken to Hawaii Medical Center-West, where he died at 7:31 p.m.
Authorities are investigating how Mara suffered the ruptured spleen while lab tests should determine how old the injury is. HPD is also conducting an internal investigation on Mara's arrest although there's no evidence of wrongdoing.
Mara's criminal record includes 17 convictions.
