PASADENA, Calif. — Tom Brandstater and his Fresno State teammates created a lasting memory.
"In 20 years, we will be able to remember that we beat UCLA at their house. We beat the mighty Bruins. That is fun," he said.
Brandstater threw three touchdown passes and Ryan Mathews ran for 166 yards as the No. 25 Bulldogs beat UCLA, 36-31, yesterday.
Mathews scored on a 49-yard dash and a 25-yard reception.
"I was recruited by UCLA — and I'm glad they passed," he said. "We had a chip on our shoulder all day long and played like it."
The scrappy Bulldogs (3-1) of the Western Athletic Conference aren't awed by any team but the school has been frustrated that more big-time football schools don't schedule them.
"It looks like it will be hard for us to schedule Pac-10 schools in the future," Mathews said after the win over the Bruins (1-3).
The Bulldogs fans seemed to make up at least a third of the Rose Bowl crowd of 73,963.
"I don't understand why more schools don't want to play us; we have great drawing power," Fresno State coach Pat Hill said.
Fresno State now has 14 victories against BCS conference opponents this decade.
NO. 17 UTAH 37, WEBER STATE 21
SALT LAKE CITY — Louie Sakoda kicked three field goals and four extra points to become the school's career leading scorer (238 points) as the Utes (5-0) beat the Wildcats (3-2) to remain unbeaten for Thursday night's home game against Oregon State.
Bryan Johnson passed for two touchdowns and Matt Asiata ran for two scores for the Utes, who avoided any hiccups against their Championship Subdivision neighbors.
OREGON 63, WASHINGTON STATE 14
PULLMAN, Wash. — Jeremiah Johnson and LeGarrette Blount each ran for three touchdowns and Jaison Williams caught two touchdown passes as the visiting Ducks (4-1, 2-0 Pac-10) ruined the Cougars' (1-4, 0-2) homecoming. Washington State plays at Hawai'i Nov. 29.
The victory by the Golden Bears salvaged a little bit of respect for the Pac-10 against the Mountain West. The tradition-rich Pac-10 had lost the first five meetings this season against the non-BCS Mountain West.

LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Paul Baker rushed for 146 yards, including a 3-yard touchdown run with 4:14 left in the game, and James Wright sealed the win with a 44-yard touchdown run two minutes later as the visiting Lobos (2-3) rallied past the Aggies (1-2), who will host Hawai'i Nov. 8.

LAS VEGAS — Colin Kaepernick rushed for 240 yards on 18 carries and three touchdowns, and completed 11 of 16 passes for 176 yards and two touchdowns as the Wolf Pack (2-2) scored 21 unanswered points to turn a 17-7 deficit into a 28-17 lead and never looked back in beating the Rebels (3-3).
