Air Force says officer stole launch control device

Associated Press

BISMARCK, N.D. The military says a hearing is scheduled for a Minot Air Force Base officer accused of stealing a classified missile launch control device.

The Air Force says Capt. Paul Borowiecki (bor-oh-WIK'-ee) was a missile combat crew member assigned to the 91st Missile Wing at the base.

Borowiecki is accused of taking a classified component used in underground missile launch control center in July 2005. Officials say he turned the device over to the Air Force in May.

He is accused of dereliction of duty, making false official statements, wrongful appropriation of military property and mishandling of classified items in violation of federal law.

The Air Force says an investigation hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
