LAUSANNE, Switzerland — Five Chinese swimmers have received two-year bans for doping.
FINA, the sport's governing body, said Wednesday that the Chinese Swimming Association suspended Qu Jing, Liu Bingyao, Zuo Ziqiao, Fu Bo and Hu Shaozhi after each tested positive for the anabolic agent clenbuterol at a national competition last June.
Their suspensions will run through June 2010. Their coaches received bans of either one or two years.
Clenbuterol is often used as a weight-loss drug for its fat-burning qualities, and can be used legally on race horses in the United States.
