Eddie Vedder set to perform on Oahu, Maui

By Kawehi Haug

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder announced via the band's Web site today that he will embark on a solo tour this summer that includes a stop in Hawaii.

According to the Web site's posted tour schedule, Vedder is scheduled to perform three shows in the Islands between June 29 and July 2 — one on Maui and two on Oahu.

The Maui show is scheduled for June 29 at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center's Castle Theatre, and the Oahu shows will take place July 1 and 2 at Hawaii Theatre.

Vedder's last visit to Hawaii was as Jack Johnson's guest performer at the Kokua Foundation's 2007 Kokua Festival, where he performed with Pearl Jam's keyboardist and Waimanalo boy Boom Gaspar.

This time around, Vedder will go it alone, but has scheduled New Zealand singer-songwriter Liam Finn to open for him for the duration of the tour.

The shows are purposely being held in small venues to make for more intimate shows, but small venues means smaller audiences, which means tickets will be at a premium.

To temper the inevitable frenzy for tickets, a limited number of tickets will be available Friday to registered Pearl Jam fans, and can only be attained by following a strict set of purchasing rules listed on the Web site. Following the pre-sale, the remaining tickets will be available for purchase by the general public, but only after an announcement is posted on the Web site

A limited quantity of tickets are now available for purchase to registered fans of the band. To register as a fan, visit the Web site at www.pearljam.com.
