Michigan woman dies in water off Kona Paradise subdivision
The body of a Michigan woman was recovered yesterday off a Big Island beach in what authorities have classified as a possible drowning case.
Police said they received a report at 1:13 p.m. that a woman was in distress in the water off Pebble Beach and had cried out for help. Pebble Beach fronts the Kona Paradise subdivision in South Kona.
A beachgoer and a volunteer firefighter used a small dinghy to bring the woman to shore.
Firefighters administered CPR and took the woman to Kona Community Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Police identified the woman as Donna Moran, 61, of Tecumseh, Mich. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
