HAMEENLINNA, Finland — Canada has edged the defending champion United States 2-1 Friday to complete round-robin play at the world hockey championships.
They'll meet again Sunday in the 12th consecutive final between the North American powers. Canada leads the series 9-2.
The Canadians (4-0) handed the Americans their first loss in the tournament. Jennifer Botterill and Caroline Ouellette scored in the second period on goalie Molly Schaus — the first goals the U.S. gave up in the tournament.
Monique Lamoureux scored for the U.S. with less than two minutes left.
Jayna Hefford assisted on both goals for Canada to surpass 200 in her career. She becomes only the third player to do so, following Canada's Hayley Wickenheiser and Danielle Goyette.
