Slam Poet Kealoha live tomorrow, on TV Sunday
Kealoha, founder of Hawai'iSlam, Youth Speaks Hawai'i and First Thursdays, will be featured at the Hawaii State Art Museum's Second Saturday event tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The poet, along with others from Hawaii, will also be part of HBO's "Brave New Voices" at 8 p.m. Sunday.
The Second Saturday event is free and also features ArtMania, a group of graduate students from the University of Hawaii Art Department, who will offer hands-on activities in printmaking, wire sculpture and watercolor.
Kealoha, who will be teaching the elements of slam poetry on Friday, will be part of tomorrow's episode of "Brave New Voices" on HBO, appearing along with Liz Soto as a mentor for a youth poetry slam festival team that included Jamaica Osorio, then 18, and Ittai Wong, who was 16 when the documetary was filmed.
