CFB: QB Ballenger leaving Colorado football program
Associated Press
BOULDER, Colo. — Colorado head football coach Dan Hawkins says sophomore quarterback Matt Ballenger is leaving the program.
The University of Colorado says Hawkins met with Ballenger and his father Friday and agreed that he would be released to pursue basketball, football or both at another school.
Ballenger had slipped to No. 3 in the competition to be the starting quarterback during spring ball. Sophomore Tyler Hansen and Hawkins' son and incumbent starter, junior Cody Hawkins, are CU's remaining quarterbacks.
Ballenger was part of CU's 2007 recruiting class and redshirted that fall. Last season in two games, he completed 8-of-12 passes for 118 yards and a touchdown. He rushed twice for 16 yards.
