CFB: Michigan State RB Winston gets 6 months in fight

Associated Press

EAST LANSING, Mich. — Michigan State running back Glenn Winston has been sentenced to six months in jail in a fight that briefly put a hockey player in the hospital.

The Detroit man also was sentenced Monday in district court in East Lansing to two years of probation and to pay $1,768.43 in fines and court costs.

He must report to jail by Friday.

Winston pleaded guilty last month to aggravated assault and assault and battery. He was indefinitely suspended from the team after entering the plea.

Authorities say he was involved in an off-campus fight Oct. 19 that briefly hospitalized Michigan State hockey player A.J. Sturges.

Spartans receiver Mitchell White of Livonia pleaded guilty to assault and battery in the fight and was sentenced last month to 30 days in jail.
