NEW YORK — One-time Kentucky Derby favorite Old Fashioned has been retired from racing after knee surgery.
The 3-year-old colt owned by Rick Porter's Fox Hill Farms injured the knee following a second-place finish in the Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park on Saturday.
Surgery was performed Tuesday at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital near Lexington, Ky.
Old Fashioned won his first four races and was considered an early for the Kentucky Derby on May 2. The colt then finished second in the Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn on March 14 before his runner-up finish to Papa Clem in the Arkansas Derby.
Old Fashioned was trained by Larry Jones.
Porter announced the colt's retirement on his farm's Web site.
