Advertiser Staff
University of Hawai'i's Annett Wichmann eclipsed the NCAA provisional mark and fellow senior Emily Sheppard scored a personal best in their respective heptathlon competitions yesterday at Cougar Athletic Stadium on the Azusa (Calif.) Pacific University campus.
Wichmann, who won the javelin with 147 feet, 6 inches, amassed 5,334 points over two days to place second in Mt. SAC Relays Multi-Events. She will likely earn her a berth in the NCAA Championships for the fourth consecutive year, which would make her the first Rainbow Wahine to accomplish that feat.
Olympian Sharon Day led the 17-athlete field with 5,823 points.
Sheppard had personal bests in all seven events, including a school heptatlon record of 25.44 seconds in the 200-meter dash. She finished with 4,769 points to place fourth in the 38-athlete field of the California Invitational Multi-Events.
UC Santa Barbara's Barbara Nwaba won with 5,039 points, followed by Adam's State's Amanda Gylling (4,853), and UC San Diego's Stephanie LeFever (4,829).
