TORONTO — The Oakland Athletics have optioned left-hander Jerry Blevins to Triple-A Sacramento and recalled right-hander Dan Giese from the minor league club.
Oakland manager Bob Geren said on Saturday that he will consider using Giese as a spot starter.
Blevins pitched in two games for Oakland this season, allowing four runs and two hits in 2-3 of an inning for an ERA of 54.00. The three-year veteran is 1-4 in 44 games.
Giese was claimed on waivers from the New York Yankees on April 8. He went 1-3 in 20 games, including three starts, for the Yankees in 2008.
