Honolulu firefighters have suspended operations in Mokuleia tonight after containing a one-acre brush fire located past Dillingham Air Field and Mokuleia Beach Park on land controlled by the state Department of Land and Natural Resources.
Two Honolulu Fire Department companies and the department's Air 1 helicopter responded to the fire just after 3:30 p.m. Air 1 dropped fire crews on top of the mountain to battle the blaze.
The crews contained the fire but suspended operations at 7:25 p.m. due to darkness and safety concerns.
HFD spokesperson Earle Kealoha said the fire is deep seeded and is not expected to move.
DLNR fire crews will survey the area at first light tomorrow and will attempt to extinguish the fire if necessary.
