Kailua wraps up East's No. 1 seed
Advertiser Staff
In a wild finish to the O'ahu Interscholastic Association's Red Conference Eastern Division season, Kailua claimed the No. 1 seed for the upcoming league playoffs yesterday after Alika Ramseyer-Ho hit a one-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Moanalua, 8-6.
Moanalua won the first game of the doubleheader on its home field, 4-3, but the Surfriders' victory in the second game left a three-way tie for first in the regular-season standings — with Kailua, Moanalua and Kaiser each at 9-3. But according to the OIA's tiebreaker procedures, Kailua will receive the East's No. 1 seed based on a 3-1 record against the other two first-place teams.
Moanalua earned the No. 2 seed and Kaiser is the No. 3 seed.
Kailua trailed 6-3 in yesterday's second game after Moanalua broke a 3-3 tie in the top of the sixth with Tim Arakawa's solo home run over the right-field fence and Jordan Paulachak's two-run single to center field.
But Kailua tied it in the sixth after Tyson Lono's RBI groundout to second and Jared Iha's two-run single with the bases loaded.
Ryan McMonigle then had a one-out single in the seventh to set up Ramseyer-Ho's blast over the fence in right-center.
