No damage as 4.2 quake hits south flank of volcano
A magnitude 4.2 earthquake was reported shortly before 5 p.m. yesterday on the south flank of Kilauea volcano on the Big Island.
The quake was centered about 27 miles south of Hilo near the Pu'u 'O'o crater, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. There were no reports of damage or injuries, an officials with the Hawai'i County Fire Department said.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the earthquake did not generate a tsunami.
The quake was about six miles east of the center of the magnitude 5.0 earthquake that occurred April 14.
The Hawaiian Volcano Observatory said its monitoring network has detected no significant change in volcanic activity in Kilauea.
