Schofield soldier hit by car near H-2 Wahiawa exit

Advertiser Staff

A 21-year-old Schofield Barracks soldier was reported to be in critical condition this morning at The Queen's Medical Center after being struck by a vehicle while walking at or near the off-ramp that leads from the north-bound lanes H-2 Freeway onto Kamehameha Highway in Wahiawa.

Police said the man was riding with friends when an argument ensued and he demanded to be let out of the car he was in.

Police said the soldier was walking on the freeway when he was hit by a 1994 Honda driven by a 25-year-old Wahiawa man.

Police said alcohol use by the injured pedestrian may have been a factor in the case.

Police closed the freeway just after the accident happened about 12:25 a.m. and reopened it about 3:30 a.m.

North-bound traffic was rerouted off of the freeway at the Mililani High Tech Park off-ramp, left onto Leleihua Golf Course Road, and right onto Kamehameha Highway to get to Wahiawa.
