National parks in Hawai'i will receive $15.74 million in stimulus funds from the Department of Interior, U.S. Sens. Daniel K. Inouye and Daniel K. Akaka announced yesterday.
"This funding will create or preserve needed jobs, attract tourists and help to preserve our precious natural and historical heritage," the senators said in a joint written statement.
"Ranging from Pearl Harbor to the most active volcano in the world, a site of forced exile to an ancient Hawaiian place of refuge, these unique sites attract visitors from around the world while enriching the lives of Hawai'i residents. They are worth preserving for the future."
