STORRS, Conn. — A co-captain of Connecticut's football team was arrested Thursday night after a fight at an off-campus apartment complex.
Linebacker Scott Lutrus, 21, of Brookfield was charged with interfering with an officer.
According to arrest reports, Lutrus and his 23-year-old brother, Kyle, were involved in a fight at the entrance to the Celeron Square apartments, just north of the university campus.
When officers attempted to detain them, "Lutrus resisted and began fighting with officers," according to his arrest report.
Lutrus, a two year starter for the Huskies, made 107 tackles as a redshirt freshman and a team-high 106 tackles last season. He was named this month as one of four captains for the 2009 season, and was praised by coach Randy Edsall for his work ethic and consistancy.
"I don't ever have to worry about Scott Lutrus," Edsall said at the time.
The arrests were among 19 made during the first night of UConn's annual Spring Weekend festivities, a traditional weekend of partying just before final exams.
A telephone call to Lutrus at the university went unanswered. Mike Enright, a spokesman for the athletic department, had no immediate comment. It could not immediately be determined if Lutrus has an attorney.
Lutrus was released after posting a $500 bond and is due in Superior Court on May 5.
