WAILUKU — Hana Highway has been reopened after a large mudslide closed a portion of the highway last night, Maui County officials said today.

The slide occurred about 10:30 p.m. last night at mile marker 21, approximately two miles on the Keanae side of the Puaa Kaa State Wayside Park.

No injuries were reported.

Crews could not begin work last night because conditions were deemed unsafe. Work began at daylight and the road was cleared at about 8:30 a.m., the county said.

A similar mudslide that occurred a month ago on March 21 took place in the same area and resulted in a road closure of about five hours.
