PEARL CITY — Wet field conditions pushed yesterday's O'ahu Interscholastic Association Red Conference baseball semifinals to today at 3:30 p.m.

Moanalua will be at Pearl City, batting in the top of the second inning trailing 1-0 with no outs and nobody on base.

Campbell will be at Kailua. That game was postponed before it began.

As a result, tonight's scheduled championship game at Central O'ahu Regional Park also has been postponed, to a site, date and time to be announced.

Under a drizzle at Pearl City yesterday, the Chargers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after Carlton Tanabe slammed a double over the center fielder's head and courtesy runner Brian Iida scored on Kahana Neal's single to center.

Na Menehune had the bases filled with no outs in the top of the first, but came away empty after a force play at home, a runner's interference call on the double-play throw to first and a flyout to center.

Moanalua started quickly with a leadoff single by Michael Egami and Timothy Arakawa's double off the right-field fence, which was thought by Na Menehune coach Scott Yamada to be a home run since the part of the fence where the ball hit actually is a separate temporary fence directly behind the original home run fence.

The fences are connected by wire ties.

Yamada said he was told by Pearl City athletic director Reid Shigemasa that the temporary fence — guarding a construction area — went up just five days ago and it was not discussed during the pregame coaches/umpires meeting regarding ground rules.

The game was suspended by the home plate umpire during warmups before the start of the second inning.
