University of Hawaii long-snapper Jake Ingram, considered the best prospect at his position, was selected by the New England Patriots in the sixth round of today's NFL draft.
Ingram, a Mililani High alum who is 6 feet 3 and 232 pounds, can make a 15-yard snap (punt formation) in 0.65 to 0.70 seconds (0.8 is considered solid in the NFL).
The Patriots picked Ingram 198th overall. They selected three offensive linemen earlier in the draft.
Some of his positivies, according to nfl.com, include: "no wasted motion in snap. ... Very good accuracy. Punter rarely has to work to secure the snap. ... Works hard to maintain his lane on punt coverage."
The negatives, according to nfl.com, would include, " Not especially quick getting downfield on punts and didn't make many coverage tackles. ... Lacks great size, although there are snappers his size in the NFL. ... Inconsistent accuracy on placement snaps. Puts them high or toward holder's right shoulder at times, making it difficult to get the ball back to the spot."
