Rainbow Wahine top San Jose State for fifth in MPSF water polo

Sixth-seeded Hawai'i defeated fifth-seeded San Jose State, 8-7, to take fifth place at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's water polo championships at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex today.
The Rainbow Wahine (18-8) will have to wait to see if they receive one of three at-large bids to the eight-team NCAA Tournament, May 8 to 10 at College Park, Md.
Hawai'i took a 7-6 lead at halftime and went ahead 8-7 on a goal by Monika Eggens, 3:40 into the second half. Adriana Vogt scored with just under two minutes to go to cut UH's lead to 8-7.
Eggens and Leonie Van Der Molen each scored two goals for the Rainbow Wahine. UH goalie Serena Bredin had eight saves, including three in the fourth period.
